Death Of An Innocent

Could a person like McCandless really exist in a society, where happiness is described by how much money you have. I personally believe that someone like McCandless could be apart of today's society, because he wasn't looking for money to make him happy. He was fine and happy with himself just roaming through different places in North America.

McCandless didn't let regular beliefs influence how happy he was, or what he wanted to do in life. He read a story that he found interesting, and then he lived the lifestyle that he wanted to live out.He read a story about a man who lived out his life backpacking and he liked the idea of going out and doing that, he pursued that ideal of life all the way to the end of his life.

Today in society and even in the past it's like the people of America didn't believe you to be happy and successful unless you have money and a job that the mass of everyday people find prestigious, but is seemed as if McCandless didn't really care to live up to the American Dream.

McCandless started off with the right tools to start off a lifestyle that the average American would find the best life to live. McCandless had a degree from Emory University, one of the top medical school, which was kind of like an automatic approval for a job in the medical field. I mean Emory's not a Harvard or a Yale, but if you get a medical degree from this university it's like having something that's close to it. If McCandless really wanted to he could have easily went out into the world and got him a job, not just because of his educational credentials but because he was also a very charismatic person too. McCandless seemed like the "it" person when he was high school. He was a very well rounded person, who no one expected to come to such an end.

In the end I believe that McCandless became too reliant on himself, because of the end he came to. He should have accepted some help and information from those who tried to come and assist him. I mean he acted as if accepting just a tad bit of help from someone or something just would have killed his whole career as a backpacker. I mean he even left behind his map the most valuable thing that he needed to know where he was. If he would have just remembered to bring along a map on his last adventure than I believe that he would still be here alive. He could have also brought along more food than what he brought along therefore in the case of an accident that could have happened, which did, he would have had more food in case he was left stranded.
All in all, I believe that people like McCandless could still exist in today's society. People like McCandless exist only when someone truly wants to be happy by their own standards. If they find being a certain way makes them happy and then they go out and do it than that's what makes them happy, then they are being like McCandless.

I liked how you came out strong with a good question. That question made me think for a while. I also liked how most of your entry was your opinion and not just being redundant and repeating the information that I had just read. Your entry was like a breath of fresh air. However, I believe that by inputting so much personal thoughts that your entry was a little bias but I could definitely feel where you were coming from.
